Italian Bread French Toast
a recipe that serves 3 by
Ingredients:
9 3/4″ to 1″ slices day old Italian bread
3-4 large eggs (depending on narrow or wide bread)
2-3 tablespoons 2% milk or whole milk
1- 1 1/2 tablespoons of vanilla extract
1/4 – 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
3 pats plus more butter or butter substitute
Directions:
1. In a large flat bowl mix eggs, milk, vanilla, and cinnamon.
2. Spray large skillet with Pam, and place a pat of butter to melt on medium-low heat.
3. Dip one or two slice of bread in egg mix stab each slice with fork two or three times and turn over in egg mix leave for a minute.
4. Remove from egg mix draining off excess egg and place in hot skillet. When golden brown turn over and cook on other side until golden brown. Usually three to four slice can cook at a time in hot skillet; melt butter in skillet before each new batch.
5. Remove from skillet when done and place on warmed platter. Smear a bit of butter on each if desired. Keep warm until all are ready to serve.
Notes:
For a topping, serve with powder sugar, maple syrup or flavored syrup, fresh fruit or fruit compote or just like that.
