Salisbury Steak With Brown Gravy

a recipe that serves 4 by me

Ingredients:

1 lb- l 1/4 lbs lean ground beef
1/4 cup vegetable flakes
1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon onion powder
1 teaspoon steak sauce
1/2 tablespoon ketchup
2 cups brown gravy (*homemade or store bought)
1/4 -1/2 cup hot water

Directions:

1. In a small bowl or measuring cup cover vegetable flakes with barely enough water covering them, to hydrate them. Let sit 15 minutes and drain any excess water.
2. In a large bowl mix hydrated vegetable flakes with ground beef, garlic powder, onion powder, steak sauce and ketchup. Shape into four equal sided balls, then flatten into even sized ovals.
3. In a medium frying pan sprayed with Pam, on medium heat fry flattened ovals until they are browned evenly on both sides about 10-15 minutes on each side depending on thickness and heat.
4. Add gravy, generously over the tops of the four Salisbury steaks and turn them over to gravy both sides.
5. Bring gravy to a boil and lower heat and let simmer another 20 minutes, turning once.

Notes:

Adding mushroom to this is nice flavor and an easy add 1/4-1/3 cup uncooked sliced baby portobellas when turning the flattened oval over in step three. For homemade brown gravy see Quick & Easy Chicken or Beef Gravy in The Recipe Box, under Gravies & Rubs.
