Sloppy Joes

a recipe that serves 4-6 by me

Ingredients:

1 1/2 lb ground beef
3 tablespoons onion, finely chopped
1/2 red bell pepper, finely chopped (green/red mixed bell pepper)
1 celery stalk (inner stalk best) finely chopped
4 garlic cloves, minced
1 tablespoon Canola Oil
1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
1 can (15 oz- 16 oz) tomato sauce
3 tablespoon ketchup
1 1/2 teaspoon steak sauce
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
4-6 buns, split and remove the bread in the middle of the thicker side, reserve inner bread pieces

Directions:

1. In a large skillet sprayed with pam, over medium-heat, heat oil. Add onion, garlic, bell pepper and celery; stirring frequently and cooking until vegetables are soft (approximately 5 minutes).
2. Add beef to skillet breaking meat up into very small pieces while browning. Add black pepper. Brown meat until barely pink, approximately (5-7 minutes). Skim off excess fat.
3. Add tomato sauce, ketchup, steak sauce and garlic powder; and stir into meat and vegetable mixture. Bring to a boil, then slowly simmer for 15 minutes, stirring occasionally.
4. Serve by scraping out a circle in the thicker side of the bread, then filling in the empty bun hole and placing a few reserved bread piece next to bun to scoop up the excess.

Note:

A great tasting light salad goes well with this meal.
